Creating good unique content will obviously drive visitors to your site from search engines. But, you need to optimize your website/blog in such a way that search engine spiders do not have any problems crawling to your site. As discussed earlier, to get your website on top of search engines, you have to follow search engine optimization procedure like link building and so. Your blog/website needs to be optimized internally also, that is, it should be search engine friendly.

I’ve used a plug-in called All In One SEO Pack which works great for SEOing. To download it, CLICK HERE. This plugin will automatically generate META tags for each of your posts. META tags on a web page are specially used for the purpose of search engines. Most of the search engines, even Google, first reads your META tags(META description atleast) . It also optimizes titles, avoids duplicate content, and much more. It does everything right to make your blog search engine friendly. And you will notice that your pages will be indexed in Google faster.

If you want, you will be able to put custom page title, keywords, description for every post you make as this feature will be provided by the plugin.

The customization options will look like:

Improving your Alexa Rank

Posted by sparkz9 in Wordpress, Blogging,... | 12.14.2007 - 11:52 am

Alexa rank can speak for your website. A good Alexa rank is a definite plus. It is normally referred to as traffic rank. Some of the webmasters have scrapped it because it does not include all. Alexa logs visitor information about a website of only those visitors using the Alexa toolbar. The Alexa toolbar is available to most of the widely used browsers. Whenever a website is visited through a browser containing an Alexa toolbar, it displays traffic information about the website and also sends information to Alexa about the site and the visitor.

Your Alexa rank will come into picture when you are selling links or ad positions or reviews. Advertisers will prefer only those websites with a good Alexa rank.

There are two main ways of improving your Alexa rank:

  • Encourage your users to download and install the Alexa Toolbar. Use Alexa redirecting URL instead of your main URL.
  • The Alexa redirection URL looks like this: http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?YOURSITE.COM

A certain amount of traffic does not mean all. You must constantly monitor the traffic to your site. You must be always interested in where are the visitors coming from? how long are they staying on your and so on…… With these statistics, you can always improve your website traffic.

To analyze your traffic, you will require some tools. These kind of tools are available in abundance. These will be Java scripts, you will be required to past a code on your site. Every time your site is visited, this code will be triggered and the information about the visitor will be logged.

The following tools I felt are the best for monitoring and analyzing your stats:

Sitemeter

Mywebstats

Google Analytics

Search engines like google will require some time to index your pages, and users start finding your site through them. You must always look for the current statistics like indexed pages, pages that link to you, etc.

Google is providing such a service. It has worked for me in a great fashion.  They have all the tools that are required to analyze your current status in search engines. Some of them are internal & external backlink checker, top search engine queries checker, indexed stats etc.

You are also allowed to submit an XML sitemap. This will enable google to index you pages as fast as possible.

Blogrush driving traffic

Driving traffic to blogs has been the biggest concern of new bloggers. Although content is the king, search engines really need some time to index your pages. Earlier, people used to use free traffic exchanges which would drive free traffic to websites instantly. But since the introduction of Google Adsense, the traffic exchanges have lost their demand as Google does not endorse any means of generating traffic artificially.

Blogrush is a sought of traffic exchange. Not exactly by the definition, but the functionality is similar. Once you sign up to an account, you need to put a small widget on your blog. This widget will syndicate the latest posts of other blogs through a selected category. Everytime the widget is displayed, you earn credits. These credits are then used to syndicate your posts on other blogs belonging to the same category. Also, you earn 100% of the credits of your referral’s traffic. I’ve been using blogrush for quite some time and have got good results from it.

Traffic from Social Bookmarking sites

Traffic, traffic and more traffic! If you have traffic to your site, you can sit back and relax. If you are trying to make money through your site, and if you have high amount of traffic, your earnings will grow exponentially. New bloggers will have a hard time driving traffic to their blog. Don’t worry….. This is perfectly NORMAL. Search engines really need some time to index your pages.

Basic promotion techniques are discussed in the Promotion section, but there are a few more ways of driving traffic. One of them is Social Bookmarking.

Social bookmarking is a way for Internet users to store, organize, share and search bookmarks of web pages. In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, but depending on the service’s features, may be saved privately, shared only with specific people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, via a search engine, or even randomly.

Some of the top social bookmarking sites are: Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, del.icio.us, etc.
These are very easy to use and can potentially drive a lot of traffic to your site. When you bookmark your site/post to a certain social bookmarking site, people around you will notice that you have bookmarked and eventually visit your site. If they like it, even they will bookmark, and this will result in more visitors. So, join these sites, create some good quality unique content, and submit it to as many social bookmarking sites as possible. Submitting an article to StumbleUpon will result in atleast 50-100 pageviews. Apart from traffic, these sites will provide you quality backlinks which is a definite plus for SEO.

Use ready made some social bookmarking widgets/plugins/scripts like Addthis, Share This, etc. on your site for the convenience of your visitors to bookmark your site. Just search for social bookmarking tools in any search engine, you’ll find tons of free tools.
